About OptiSlides

Mouse Liver: Maximum projection image of a 50 micron liver slice with nuclei (blue), Kupffer cells (cyan), vimentin labeling the bile duct (yellow) and blood vessels (magenta).

Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy, 10x objective lens

Created by scientists for scientists. There are finally prepared slides as sophisticated as the microscopes they serve.

We created OptiSlides to test, calibrate and showcase high performance microscopes. OptiSlides include:

  • Multi-colour tissue slides at 50, 100 and 200 micron thicknesses, ideal for confocals and multiphotons.

  • Diverse tissues including liver, lung, spleen, kidney, brain, heart and testes. Each tissue has its own unique features.

  • Slides for spectral detection with more than half a dozen fluorophores with distinct signals across the spectrum, from UV to near infrared.

  • 4-colour slides that can be used on virtually any microscope.

  • Super resolution, co-localization and TIRF customizations are in development.

Fun Fact: All our microscopy images are pseudo-coloured using a colour-blind friendly palette!

Why?

Dr. Kamala Patel, who spearheaded this project, is colour blind as are 8% of the public!
